Penang Indoor Competition 2010
Tuesday, June 29, 2010
28th of June, it was a big day. A BIG DAY!
Cuz I skipped school. LOL, naah, cuz it was the Penang bands indoor competition.

Skip all the preparation..
We left school around 3 something and when we reach Dewan Sri Pinang, there were quite a number of teams already.
After all the briefing and made sure everything was settle, we waited, and waited. Haha.

Competition started around 5 something, I guess.
1st team was St. Xavier. When it was BM High's turn, we were already outside of the hall.
Encouraging each other, high-ed five etc, we were basically just calm and laughing off on loadsa stuffs.
Union and Jit Sin A were next.

Went in to a room to warm up and we cheered so loud.
It was hilarious cuz we couldnt be too noisy so whenever we cheered, we shushed ourselves. LOL
We didnt get nervous, well, not until the second we started to stand by the opened door, waiting for the Jit Sin members to get down from stage.
But the moment we walked in and started going up the stage, we changed.
We were ready, to... fight. No, kidding, ready to do our very best. =)

When I first saw the timpani I went o.O
Why the hell were there so many Fs on a timpano, Cs and Gs on the other timpani?
It was labeled, labeled and labeled for numerous time. -.-
For the first time ever, I was so grateful that I used to have hearing training. =D
Back then, I hated it so much. LOL

And the platform kinda freaked us. -.-
It went a lil shaky and there was this loud shaking noise whenever Jia Yi and I each hit the bass and timpani.
But we forgot about it very soon. =)
Those lil' conversation we had on stage were pretty funny and interesting. ; )

And I was like able to look at Nan Rou, Jing Ning and Pui Cheng only, couldnt communicate with them. =S

But then this came handy, I was able to tell what they were thinking from their facial expression and body language.
Thanks to all the closeness we have and how well we know each other. ;D
So yeah, after making sure all the percussionists are ready, gave Laurine a firm nod.
The emcee started to announce, took a deep breath, and we're ready! =)

Mei Thung helped and video recorded our performance. Will post it up soon. =)
First song was Warabe Uta Fantasy.
And that bloody timpani, the pedals were so hard to step, dang hard to change note.
Plus, I was wearing heels, we all were, but I had to use the front part of my foot to step real hard on the pedals. -.-
Ours are way easier to step. =)
Almost, I say almost, freak out when the pedal wouldnt move, I thought I couldnt change the note in time for my solo. LOL. But I got it all in hand anyway.

Next was The Eighties. We all love this song. ;D
Seriously, we enjoyed it so much. ;D
And it felt like it ended so fast, 12 minutes was used up already.

The platforms were really high for lowerbrass and they practically had to jump down wih the heels. Poor them.
Helped out and I ended up going out with 4 or 5 files with me. Haha.

When we stepped out of the hall, first thing, felt relief! Let out a deep breath.
Secondly, shouted in a very low voice, it's over! OMG OMG!
Slightly screamed and since I was first of the percussionists to come out and only Joella was in front of me, I hugged her, un-noticing-ly. xD
We were all just so happy. Next, went to Laurine. ;D

So yeah, we had a lil' food, chatted about everything on stage and went inside again.
It was Bagan's turn and since we were so high and energetic, we eventually danced and moved along to the song and some the brass and woodwinds players even sang when they sang. -.-
They followed the la laala lala la laala lala la la lala lala la..
and it took quite some time to make them stop LOL

There was break and we took quite a number of photos.

 Lighting was so terribly bad.

So up next was a few more schools and the last one was Jit Sin again, the juniors team.
Then it's time to announce the result. We were so freaking nervous.
And that prize giving ceremony was pretty.. annoying?
Cuz there were like hundreds of recorder and mini recorder competition and all we wanna hear is the final one.

When it started up with St Xavier we went o.o
When they announced they won perak we went OMG.
Next was BM High, we heard gangsa and we were like OMG OMG, it's coming.
There were a few more schools before us and we sat up straight, opened up our ears.

When the emcee said SMJK Perempuan China, took a real deep breath, crossed my fingers, looked straight at the emcee, it felt so long waiting for her to say the result.
And when she said sijil emas, we cheered, clapped and screamed like crazy!! xD
Clapped for the other schools too but we basically just lived in our own world when the emcee wasnt announcing any result. xp

While waiting for the emcee to announce whose the champion, everyone was like so quiet, stared at her.
Though it came up was Jit Sin but we were very happy for getting gold certificate.
Too bad no one took our picture down when we cheered like crazy girls. xD

So we went back very quickly cuz it was close to 10pm and all the parents were waiting already.
We were so happy, excited but exhausted and most of them slept in happiness in the bus after food. =)
Back to auditorium but couldnt open the door and so headmistress came.

More photos taking while waiting.

Dont blame them, they went a lil' cuckoo after surviving with all the fever and flu.

Dear girls, we did well. We did awesome.

The first time, we, this batch of PCGHS Band members stood on this strange stage together after so many years PCGHS Band had stopped participating in indoor competition,
we tried our very best, adjust accordingly and hearing came into big help.
And what did we get?
We've got awesome happy memories to share around, we made the school and seniors proud. ;D

Although we didnt get champion, we aren't regret.
Although it was pretty scary on the shaky platforms, we showed our confidence.
Although there were erratic situations, and not used to the instruments provided, we were so adaptable.

Oh, percussionists, am so freaking proud of you girls.
Trusted you girls and you girls didnt let me down. =)

It's my last year in band, didnt have chance to take part in formation competition but it's alright.
We tried something different. And it's now filled with different experiences and memories.

PERCUSSION! Oooshh!

A lot a lot of thanks to all the loves and supports from teachers, seniors and friends!!
Thank you so much for trusting us, we couldnt do it all without you peeps' supports.

Thank you to whomever that helped us out for drum battle, indoor competition,
