you feel like as if the mattress in sucking you in, or the table's gonna collapse,
most of all, you just feel like falling down.
Have you ever felt that?
Most people thought it's a kinda disease or some sorta sickness.
But it's just hypnagogic myclonic twitch or normally known as hypnic jerk which is similar.
It usually comes with a dream or two, a dream that you feel like you're falling into holes,
you're sliding down slopes or even more random dreams like you're gonna fall flat on your face when you start walking after you wake up.
Have you experienced this?
Dont worry, you're not alone, probably around 70% of people experienced this.
It's agreed by most experts that it's just a natural process of sleeping.
The general consensus among researches is that, as your muscles begin to slack and go into a restful state as you're falling asleep,
your brain senses these relaxation signal and misinterprets them, thinking you're falling down. *So it's the brain's fault?*
The brain then sends signals to the muscles in your arms and legs in attempt to jerk you back upright.
That's why you feel like your arm or leg twitches, pretty quickly.
And somehow these misinterpretation leads to "dreams" that aren't real dreams cuz it's not produced by R.E.M. (rapid eye movement) sleep along with all the weird falling sensations.
Researches believes that the lack of sleep anxiety or sleep deprivation confuses the muscles and brain, or sleeping in an uncomfortable position or condition.
The muscles probably just dont know what the hell we want cuz when it's night time,
we're all online, studying, playing games, or had caffeine or has insomnia;
and when it's day time, we've to work but we're all tired like hell and couldnt keep our eyes open,
and we're so sloppy that our muscles are in relaxed mode or dont have the strength at all, causing us to feel even sleepier.
So yeah, it's not the brain's fault actually but we ourselves who controls our body most of the time,
causing it to stressed out like this, and so you get the hypnic jerk pretty frequently.
So I've been experiencing this since last year, I think?
And I've heard of classmates and schoolmates experiencing this too.
But I never thought of finding out the reason though I did wonder. -.-
But yeah, I've experiencing this frequently lately and it can be like up to five times in less than half an hour and so I wondered even more so I decided to do some "research". LOL
So yeah, that's what I understand in summarized form after reading like close to a dozen of articles. =)
Hope it helps you peeps out there too. ;D
It's pretty much a lengthy text post again. >.<
